Helping MCPASD Students in Need During School Closures

Message from Purna Byraiah, Education Foundation Board Chair

Dear MCPASD Families,

As many of us stock up on food and essentials to keep our families healthy and safe, we want to consider those who may not be able to do so. The Education Foundation is supporting two initiatives to support MCPASD students in need. We’re reaching out to see if you may like to contribute to these efforts.

1.Weekend Food Program
We are supporting the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District’s partnership with volunteers from five local churches to make sure students in need have access to food while school’s out. The Weekend Food Program will continue distributing snack and small meals to students for at least the next three Fridays at nine sites across the district. Your donation will help ensure the continuation of this program as long as it’s needed.

2.Meals Over Spring Break
In addition, the district wants to provide meals to students over spring break. We anticipate feeding up to 500 children, per day, that week. It’s a challenge because federal funding of school lunch programs doesn’t extend to spring breaks. We need to raise $20,000 to cover food and labor costs for staff to prepare and deliver food during spring break.

You can read NBC 15’s segment on getting meals to families, which includes today’s lunch pick-up at Kromrey.

How to Help
We’re pleased to share that we’ve received two generous gifts worth $8,500 as a match to the community in support of these efforts! To make the most of these gifts, please consider donating.

Thank you for supporting our students in need during these especially challenging times.
