The MCPASD Education Foundation was honored to award five scholarships to graduating MHS seniors on Scholarship Night at the Performing Arts Center on May 15.

We are happy to announce Frank Thornton as one of two recipients of a $500 Mighty Middleton Scholarships.

Thornton plans to attend University of Notre Dame and major in neuroscience, and apply to medical school after college.

Thornton’s interest in healthcare was inspired by his parents’ careers in medicine and by his volunteer experience.

“Over the past two years I have gained incredible insight into the inner workings of my local community hospital, UnityPoint Health-Meriter,” Thornton said. “I recognize that for most visitors, coming to a hospital is fraught with emotion: joy, fear, sadness, apprehension and disorientation. A deep sense of empathy has awakened in me and an appreciation for what it means to be healthy. I am the patient and visitor experience all through one simple but impactful volunteer role. This is a humble beginning for me in what I hope will one day lead to a rewarding career in healthcare.”

His academic achievements include being named a National Merit Scholarship Commended Student and to Middleton High School’s honor roll. He earned varsity letters in cross country and track and field, and served as cross country captain this year when the team qualified for Nike Cross Country Nationals. His extracurricular activities also include National Honor Society, Math Team, Philomusica and orchestra.

The Mighty Middleton Scholarship was established in 2019 to support MCPASD graduates who intend to devote their careers to helping others in healthcare and related professions. This scholarship was inspired by Theresa and Don Roepsch, whose granddaughters attend MCPASD schools.

Please join the Education Foundation in congratulating Thornton on his scholarship and in wishing him all the best as he continues his education!
