The MCPASD Education Foundation was honored to award five scholarships to graduating MHS seniors on Scholarship Night at the Performing Arts Center on May 15.

We are happy to announce Emily Proano as the recipient of a $500 Education Foundation Scholarship.

Her scholarship is renewable for four years, making the total value $2,000. Scholarship criteria include community and school involvement, particularly high levels of service learning, and planning a major in a service-related field. Preference is given to students of color.

Proano plans to attend Madison College and pursue a degree in social work. Her career plans are inspired by her desire to support the Latino community.

“As a bilingual student, I want to support the Spanish-speaking community to minimize barriers that they confront in today’s society,” Proano explained. “My career vision is to work as a coordinator within a community.”

She especially wants to help those who need support integrating into society to do so.

She has been highly involved with community service and extracurricular activities including swimming, theater, dance, soccer, karate and chorus. She said all of these experiences allowed her to work as part of a team and build strong relationships. Please join us in congratulating Proano on her scholarship and in wishing her all the best as she pursues a degree in social work!
